Announcements:  1. Board meeting is next Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Bradley & Riley.  2. Ron Sunderman called a meeting of the foundation board for immediately after today’s luncheon. 3. Pancake Henry announced that the ticket campaign will officially kick off next Wednesday.  Ticket prices are now $5 in advance, $6 at the door.  Everyone needs to get involved in selling and he emphasized corporate sales as the key to our success.  Looking for 10 members to work on corporate sales.  The event is March 10 and a worker’s sheet will be passed around beginning next Wednesday.

Happy Bucks:  Pres. Chuck passed on the happy bucks in light of Pancake Henry’s long-windedness.  However, Duane Kurrelmeyer and Jim Platt contributed for their anniversaries, Duane in light of Sister C’s vow of poverty.

Next week’s program:

Wednesday, Feb. 7 – Jack Rader, GM of the CR Kernels

Wednesday, Feb. 14 – Brewing beer

Speaker:   Kelly Moore introduced Brian Stutzman and Ron Pins who gave a very informative presentation on the Young Parents Network (YPN).  Brian is the Executive Director, and might I add, a Coe College graduate.  YPN began in 1985 with a budget of $35,000 and approximately 35 families.  Today, the organization has 30 full-time employees, a budget of $1million and serves an 8 county region.  YPN traditionally has focused on the 0-5 population and educating parents in how to be actively involved in a positive way in raising their children.  It continues to serve teen parents but has expanded its services to a broader family base.  Brian indicated that over 50% of the kids in Linn County under the age of 5 are going to unidentified child care settings.

Ron gave a quick overview of “Broadway Maybies”, the major fundraiser for the YPN.  This is the 17th year for the program.  Attendance has grown to almost 1500, which practically fills the Paramount.  It is a combination of talent and comedy for the entire family.  The show is this Friday, February 2 beginning at 7:00 pm at the Paramount.  Admission is $10 and raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.  Grand Prize is a trip for two to Las Vegas.

Word for the day:   Don got us again: “recondite” – removed from ordinary apprehension, understanding, or knowledge; deep, profound, abstruse

Su bmitted:   Dan Breitbach
