He has been a member of the team for 10 years, and is one of several training officers. In-house training and certification saves the city considerable expense, and , in fact, makes money by training personnel from other departments. Membership on the team requires 3 years experience in the department, and the obvious physical and psychological attributes. Most SWAT team missions are service of high risk search and arrest warrants, but the training covers all the events one might see on TV. Fortunately, most are rare in Cedar Rapids. Sgt. Fields comes to speak to our club through a Sunderman connection – Dr. Ryan Sunderman is the team doctor, and is slated to undergo SWAT training in the near future. Word for the day: tourbillion – a whirlwind; a whirling storm Submitted: Chuck Wehage |
