Speaker: A representative of the Cedar Rapids District Office of the Small Business Administration discussed the activities of the office. The SBA is sort of a sister organization of SCORE – a presentation was made recently at the club luncheon. The stimulus efforts of the federal government have sweetened the offerings of the SBA to their clients, with such enticements as temporary suspension of their loan guarantee fees – 2.5 to 3% of the loan amount, usually.
Like SCORE, SBA exists for assistance to small and medium sized businesses. The loans they guarantee are usually rather small, but in the week before this meeting, 19 loans were guaranteed in the state for an aggregate total of $8.8 M.
Word for the day: Propitiate. To render propitious or favorably inclined; to appease, conciliate (one offended).
