Upcoming Programs: Speaker: Rod Thorpe introduced Barbara Hoffman, director of the local RSVP office by day and co-owner of the Daily Creek Winery & Restaurant (Anamosa) by night and weekend. RSVP is the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a federally chartered agency open to anyone 55 years and older. The local office is located in St. Luke’s Hospital. It began in 1969 and is one of the largest agencies for seniors in the country. Barbara gave a very informative talk on the agency’s work and provided all with brochures and an application. In Cedar Rapids, a key component of this agency is the RCRV, the Rockwell Collins Retirees Volunteers, which has over 200 members. Barbara introduced Cathy (didn’t catch her last name) who is a ½ time administrator for RSVP and ½ time volunteer at St. Luke’s. Cathy talked briefly about her experience with RCRV and the tremendous help it provided her in rebuilding her home after the 2008 flood. She had just purchased a home in the Ellis Blvd area in March 2008. Timing is everything these days. Very informative session! Word for the day: GH as in "enouGH" OE as in "amOEba" TI as in "naTIon Go figure that one. Submitted: Dan Breitbach - El Verboso Bloviatoro |
