Speaker coordinator sign up sheet for 2008-09 year is being passed around.
2. Installation dinner is set for Wednesday, Sept. 24 at noon. Cost $16.40. Spouses and guests are invited.
3. Flood relief certificate of appreciation was sent to us for our help.
4. Ray Vaughn is doing very well, playing golf and joining a bowling league.
5. John Locher announced that October is “America Reads” month. He is checking into schools that might need our help.
6. No workers needed for the Hawkeye-ISU game this Saturday. Happy Bucks: Dr. Graeff – 104 pennies happy for # of points Missouri has scored in first two games; Doug Dix – the Broncos are a force to be contended with; John Locher is also a Broncos fan; Duane Kurrelmeyer – 60 years ago to started his company; Ron Sundermann - $ appreciation for the great work Mary Corkery did in getting workers for the Kernels’ games; Don Grimm – the great health services in our community as his mom prepares for hip surgery. Speaker: John Locher introduced his dad, John Locher Sr, President of the Green Square Meals Program board. John gave us a very informative talk on the current state of affairs for this program which has been in existence for 25 years. They are currently serving meals to the poor at Grace Episcopal Church to approximately 40-50 people each evening. December is the target month to move into their new facility at the corner of 2nd Ave and 6th St. SE. It appears that the Witwer Center will join them at this location and use the facility morning and early afternoon, prior to Green Square Meals coming in for the evening dinner. GSM has one paid employee – Maggie; otherwise, it is staffed by volunteers. If anyone is interested in volunteering, there is a number in the phone book to call Maggie. Thanks John.
