Guests: None Birthdays: Janet Blackledge Oct. 13 Anniversaries: Oct. 7 Aaron Randolph (since ’76) and Sister Charmaine LeMaire (’97) Announcements: Ron Sundermann reported that several members planted trees last Saturday as part of Habitat for Humanity’s program. The next Board meeting is set for Tuesday, October 13, 2009. The location will be announced later. Happy Bucks: Eight to ten people were happy; several, including Dick Boardman, were very happy that yours truly made a slight error in telling a joke that cost him $2. Upcoming Programs: Oct. 14 – overview of the year by new president Oct. 21 – Gubernatorial candidate Oct. 28 – Kelly Allen has it taken care of Speaker: Breitbach introduced Laura Arnold and Amy Andersen from Junior Achievement. Laura is the Marketing Manager and Amy is the Elementary Education Manager. They gave a nice overview of the educational program that introduces students, K-12, to the world of economics and finance. The program began in 1919 and has been in Cedar Rapids for over 40 years. This past year over 34,000 students in Linn County participated in the program. The headquarters for JA is located in Colorado Springs. Worldwide, JA is in over 100 countries and works with over 4 million children. Laura and Amy expressed their desire to see the Club get involved in the program and left some literature to that effect.
