NEWSLETTER Cedar Rapids Downtown Kiwanis Club Wednesday, October 22 The meeting was called to order by President Bob Hatala, Esq. 26 Members in attendance. Guests: Byron Taber Birthdays: none Anniversaries: none Announcements: Dan Breitbach announced that he, Sister Charmaine and Bob Dye attended the Xavier Key Club induction ceremony last night. The Club has 215 members. Happy Bucks: It was a happy day as Rod Thorpe opened things up with a $20 challenge: if at least $20 is donated, he will throw his $20 in. The Club responded with $33. The big question is: Do we trust Breitbach with the money in the absence of our trusted Treasurer, Gerry? Time will tell. It was decided that today’s Scribe be responsible for keeping an eye on Breitbach. Speaker: Mary Corkery introduced Matt Schaefer, an archivist at the Herbert Hoover Library. Matt is one of four archivists there. Matt had a PowerPoint presentation to augment his personal anecdotes. There are over 14,000 boxes of Pres. Hoover’s papers that have been archived as well as 35,000 books in the collection. Matt spends 1/3 of his time in ready reference, assisting researchers; another 1/3 in records preservation; and the final 1/3 organizing conferences. He’s a 1979 graduate of Word for the day: Submitted: Dan Breitbach - El Verboso Bloviatoro |
