Guests: Peter Teahen, Greg Baker, Dave Davidson (all accompanying the speaker), Tom Beaumont of the Des Moines Register (covering the speaker) Birthdays: Christian Djerf Anniversaries: None Announcements: Joe Blanck is organizing volunteers to help folks do their income taxes; Also, he has an opportunity for us to help out at a Safe Halloween event at Ushers Ferry, this Sunday from 1 to 4; Dan Breitbach reminds us that November is Kiwanis Family Month – more later on this; Dan and finance committee is working on the budget for this operating year, and finally, Dan will insist that we all join or continue serving on a committee. Happy Bucks: Chuck Wehage was happy to serve wife Carol as she recovers from hip surgery; Keith Sutherland celebrated an excellent seminar he attended, and added many bucks anticipating the next five weeks in CA; Sister Charmaine threw in a buck for her 18th and last chemo treatment; Don Grimm was happy that Marjorie saw fit to bring him along to the model engine show in Estavan, Sask.; Mike Poggenklass was happy for Coach Ferentz’ success of late. Upcoming Programs: A presenter from the UIHC pediatric nursing unit will speak Speaker: Iowa gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Platz took the opportunity to describe his background from NW Iowa high school athlete, Indiana University basketball player and coach (for Head Coach Bob Knight), and HS principal at two Iowa schools before his career as a businessman. The theme of his talk was leadership – starting with the concept that “politician” brings negative vibes, whereas “leader” conveys a positive message. Bob aspires to be leader of the State.
