Guests: Phil Holland, John Green, Gene Matthews and Harry Norris, all part of an Interclub visit from the Iowa City club; Byron Tabor, Lt. Gov. Birthdays: Christian Djerf Anniversaries: None Announcements: The proceedings started with a rousing rendition of “ Hello Johnny”, adapted from the tune of Hello Dolly, as a way to wish all the best to John Schweitzer who’s facing back surgery to remove a cyst; - Good thoughts go out to Lonna Drewelow, who finds it difficult to attend lunch meetings these days, but passes along good news about the Circle K at Mt. Mercy and invites an Interclub meeting soon; - Mike Poggenklass is working at updating contact info for all in the club; - The Taylor Reading Program continues under the great guidance from John Locher; - Joe Blanck announced an upcoming Webinar to help clubs focus on program planning for the future; -Byron Tabor reported on the Key Leader camp a while back – he took four kids from around here; - President Breitbach announced - that the Xavier Key Club would be here in two weeks to report on volunteer activities, - that November is Kiwanis Family Month, so invite family members to our meetings, - International is developing new service efforts (like the iodine deficiency program in the past), - the November 10 board meeting would take place at Bradley & Riley, - and finally, that we should identify a shirt to be used as a standard uniform to be worn at volunteer events. Happy Bucks: Dan Breitbach paid a dollar fine for the lame song we sang, Katie Hyatt-Braasch was happily planning to participate in America Reads; Chuck Wehage passed the three week mark of care giving related to wife’s joint replacement surgery; Pam Landon shared son’s hospitalization for staph infection, her plans to visit family in New Jersey, glad to be done with tax class, and looking forward to another trip to Colorado; Byron happily returned a portion of the tuition we contributed – one of the Key Clubbers we sponsored for Leadership camp couldn’t make it; Kevin Carlson was just happy to be here. Upcoming Programs: Lt. Shojgren of the Salvation Army will speak next week. Speaker: Noelle Andrew, ordained Presbyterian minister and pediatric chaplain at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics told many moving stories of her work. She’s funded part time (and is needed full time) by Children’s Miracle Network and partially by Kiwanis. She provides services to the typical population of 300+ inpatient kids and their families.
