Happy BucksDick Boardman had an UN-happy buck to inquire about president Hatala’s use of crutches (broken 5th metatarsal – a reward for not stepping on the dog); Ron Sunderman was ecstatic with the help received from Joe Schmall’s firm in getting Transamerica to pay up on his mother-in-law’s long term care policy; Keith Sutherland celebrated victory over the mole that was tearing  up his yard; Don Grimm noted that Margie was out of town again, and was happy with the service to the community provided by WRAP – Wheelchair Ramp Accessibility Program.

Speaker: Mark Carlson, GM of the CR RoughRiders, talked about his ten years with the team, including his selection in the 2004-5 season as Coach of the Year in the league, USHL.  Mr. Carlson is a native of New Jersey.

Key to the ability of the team to operate in CR, host families basically adopt the players, and many form long lasting relationships.  The players’ ages range from 16 to 20, and play in the USHL with the goal of receiving an athletic scholarship from a Division 1 school to play hockey.  Players come from all over the US and many from Europe.  They either attend high school at Kennedy, junior college at Kirkwood, or they work a part time job somewhere.

The RoughRiders have three past players in the NHL, and many in university programs on scholarships.

The team is 7-1 so far this year, only 52 games to go
