Case) Birthdays: Ken DeKoch Dec. 1; Kevin Carlson Dec. 4; Robert Cenek Dec. 5 Anniversaries: Paul Anderson (92); Mel Rhodes (02) Sage Saying for the Week: "Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve" (M. L. Dave Graeff has nearly a full roster for Bell Ringing at Sams Club on Blairs Ferry on December 10. A few evening slots are available for that. Happy Bucks: Joe Schmall celebrated the Notre Dame victory over Stanford, and the nice piece on TV featuring our own Paul Anderson; Don Grimm figured out his moms Medicare supplement and Part D coverage; Ray Vaughn seconded the kudos for Paul Anderson, and plugged Jim Doynes show; Fran Brown keeps pitching in a buck every week that her cold remains uncured; Doug Dix is happy because Denver will beat Kansas City this weekend; Ron Sundermann was so happy that son Ryan will probably be returning to CR after completion of his residency to practice emergency medicine that he didnt even tell one of his lame jokes (for which Richard Boardman was grateful, $1 worth); Joe Nolte reports that his bowling team is having a ball (no fine levied!); Dave Graeff raved about the Chiefs, and begs to differ with Doug Dix about the Denver game; Dr. Manville was happy, but forgot why. Program: Jim Doyne, pinch-hitting for John Locher, set up a visit by Randy Lee and Shannon Knoepke of WMT. Randy is News Director and Program Director, and Shannon is Director of Sales. They explained that WMT is operated locally, despite ownership by Clear Channel, Inc. Their audience is a mix between city and rural listeners the ag-related revenue rises to about 40% of sales in the 4th and 1st quarters, when farm decisions get made, and return to about 25% during the remainder of the year. WMT has a generally conservative bent with programs such as Rush Limbaugh. Our guests reported that there are no commercially equivalent programs with a liberal slant, and that they would subscribe if available. Programming is a financial process. WMT will keep their farm programming. They serve listeners who can no longer find ag coverage on Minneapolis WCCO or Chicagos WGN. Words for the Day: Dilatory. Tending to cause delay; made for the purpose of gaining time or deferring decision or action. (This word from last week) Cadge. To go about as a cadger or peddler, or on pretense of being one; to go about begging. Submitted by Chuck Wehage | |||||||
