| NEWSLETTER Cedar Rapids Downtown Kiwanis Club February 22, 2006 "Now More Than Ever"
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Charles Wehage. 28 members were present. Guests: Dianne Young, guest of the speaker Birthday: none Anniversaries: none Announcements: Member Dr. James Manville is in intensive care and will undergo emergency surgery today. The kickoff for ticket sales for the pancake breakfast will be at next week's meeting. Happy Bucks: Mel Rhodes, Chuck Wehage, and Bill Windus were happy it is National Engineers Week. Ron Sundermann appeared to be happy that pride goeth before the fall (surgery). John Anderson paid the fines he assessed against other people. Jim Doyne appeared to be happy that computers don't work. Joe Schmall was happy that Arby's is again sponsoring the pancake-breakfast tickets. Dan Breitbach was happy about ice sculptures, and Don Grimm was happy that Chuck Wehage and he met in 1957. Next week’s program: was not announced Speaker: was David Drewelow of Action International, who presented some of the materials he uses when Business Coaching. He emphasized the "decision line", which illustrates that Ownership, Accountability, and Responsibility will support a Victor Mentality, while Blame, Excuses, and Denial result in a Victim Mentality. Key points of his talk were that (1) The only failure is the failure to participate. (2) To get the most out of your learning, replace "I know" with "Isn't that interesting?" (3) Leaning is improved when you are willing to have some fun! Word for the day: Chiliad -- a group of 1000 things or a period of 1000 years.
