Cedar Rapids Downtown Kiwanis Club

The meeting was called to order by President Doug Dix.      31 Members in attendance.

Birthdays: - none

Anniversaries:  - May 1 - Kevin Carlson (2001).  May 2 -  Lonna Drewelow (1989), Ron Sunderman (2000), Joe Nolte (2001), Don Grimm (2001)

Announcements:  - No numbers yet on the money raised at the pancake breakfast.  July 12, 2006 is the Nebraska-Iowa District Golf Outing in Ames.  See Doug Dix for details.  Tuesday, May 2, 2006 – Board meeting at Bradley & Riley.  Paul Anderson was contacted by the PTO of Truman School and they need volunteers for working on a playground on Friday, May 12.  There will be a sign-up sheet at next week’s meeting.

Happy Bucks: - Dick Boardman – happy so many people worked at the pancake breakfast.  Don Grimm – fine for not working at the pancake breakfast and one for attending the North American Model Engineers Conference.  Duane Kurtelmeyer – Fine for not helping with the pancake breakfast.  Bob Hatala (Esq) – Someone left a sterling silver spatula at the pancake breakfast.

Next week’s program:  -  The superintendent of the Cedar Rapids School District.

Speaker: - Paul Anderson introduced Dr. Myrna Loehrlein from Heart of Iowa.  Heart of Iowa (HOI) is a substance abuse treatment center in Cedar Rapids for woman who are pregnant or have children with them.  They have many success stories and many challenges.  They are in need of storage space and various other items for the children.
